This paper provides definitions of terms associated with substance-related disorders, mental disorders, co-occurring disorders, and programs. The purpose for which a definition is used and the context in which it is used will affect its meaning, dimensions, and precision.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. Learn or review the definitions of terms associated with substance-related disorders, mental disorders and co-occurring disorders.
  2. Understand the purpose for which a definition is used.
  3. Learn or review the definitions of the different types of mental health programs.
  4. Be able to describe the four-quadrant model of disorders by severity.
  5. Know the major relevant categories of mental disorders for COD.
  6. The therapist will be able to explain the difference between an integrated assessment and an integrated screening.
